An homage to two women who raised the bar and paved the way for others with their voices and vision. These women are Violet King Henry and Mary Ann Shadd.
Violet King Henry: The black woman lawyer in Canada.
Mary Ann Shadd: An anti-slavery activist, journalist, teacher, lawyer and publisher. Creator of The Provincial Freeman, a Canadian weekly newspaper published from 1853 to 1857. She was the first black woman publisher in North America and the first woman publisher in Canada. She was also the first black woman to attend law school in the US.
