Art by Damo

Damo is a visual, graphical, and fine artist of Nigerian Heritage based in Toronto, Canada.

Born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, he grew up in a multilingual and multicultural environment, which exposed him to a world of mixed cultures and traditions. Exploring the world of art became his escape and language through which he expressed his inner thoughts and brought imagination and images to life.

The most significant influence in his development was his mother. A vibrant African woman who preached love, empowerment, and good values and was the first person to spot his uniqueness and recognize his budding talent in the Arts. Being a supportive and visionary figure, she encouraged him by empowering him with exposure to the world of architecture, culinary, fashion, and applied arts. He did learn and develop in the field; however, fine art and painting were more of his calling as the journey made him discover his autodidact nature, where he had to self-teach and self-learn the intricacies of his passion.

His art pieces depict his values, African beauty, blackness and the rich heritage of Africa, women empowerment, and graphical stories of fictional and non-fictional orientations. These edifices are murals, abstract in nature or pure representational pieces, each telling a unique story to the observing mind.

Art by Damo gives a refreshing mix of soulful and abstract representations of portraits with a fine blend of hues to bring life to any space, wall, or vacuum.

Damo’s newest art pieces are currently exhibited and displayed at the new headquarters of the CEE Centre in Toronto. The CEE centre for young black professionals picked his work for the values and stories that are told about being black, young, entrepreneurial, and embracing one’s uniqueness which highly resonates with the core values and representation of the organization.
